Are Energy Efficient Appliances Worth The Cost?

Energy efficient appliances are certainly not the cheapest option when it comes to buying new appliances. But it is important to keep in mind that cheap does not equate to good when it comes to purchasing appliances that you will want to use for years to come.

To decide whether or not you should spend the extra amount of money on energy efficient appliances, you should consider several factors.

Saving the environment. Energy efficient appliances use less energy to operate, which equates to a smaller impact on the environment.  Fossil fuels contribute heavily to environmental pollution and to major problems like global warming, so using less energy is important to decreasing the harm we do to our environment.

Saving money on your budget. As mentioned before, energy efficient appliances don’t use as much energy, which is great because it means that you will have to spend less per month on your electricity and other utility bills. This is a smart decision to make in the long run because energy costs are rising exponentially.

Tax credits and rebates. The government is helping to offset the larger costs of purchasing energy efficient appliances by offering tax credits and rebates to people who purchase qualified appliances. Energy appliances are not that much more expensive than many quality appliances that are not energy efficient. So if you are able to get a rebate, then energy efficient appliances may wind up costing as much as or even less than their non-efficient counterparts.

You cannot look at the sticker price of the appliance alone when you estimate the cost of buying appliances. Pet Hotels: Vacation time for Furry Friends

One of the newest concepts in travel is the “pet hotel”—boarding accommodations for dogs and cats.

While many vacationers have traditionally boarded their pets with a local kennel or vet, the pet hotel features additional amenities besides just a clean cage and regular feeding.

Like many human resorts, pet hotels offer planned activities, special pampering, and deluxe accommodations.  Designated play times (both group and individual) and one-on-one attention periods are common.  Some pet hotels, even offer the option of telephone time for traveling pet owners to talk to their pets over the phone.

Before scheduling a long pet vacation at a pet hotel, it may be a good idea to try a one- or two-day stay.  While your pet may not be able to tell you what the stay was like, you can tell a lot by his attitude.  Especially when you go back.  Is he eager to go inside and visit his friends?  Or does he firmly plant all four paws, digging claws into the asphalt parking lot, whining and straining to stay away from the place?

You will also need to know what the pet hotel requires as far as pet health.  Besides the usual DPP and Rabies vaccinations, your dog will need to be vaccinated against Bordetella (kennel cough).  Many vets don’t administer this vaccine unless requested.

Many pet owners are economizing by administering vaccinations themselves.  Most pet hotels will NOT accept this, requiring certification that shots were administered by a veterinarian. Furthermore, they won’t accept titer tests in lieu of a vaccination.

Different pet hotels also have different policies regarding flea and tick infestations.  Some will accept the pet, treat the problem, and bill you for the service.  Others will refuse to accept the pet until the problem has been eliminated.

An overnight stay at a pet hotel may cost $35 or more, depending on the hotel and amenities you choose.

So next time you plan a vacation for yourself, consider a vacation for your pet.  Consider a pet hotel.
